ski destinations
Meli asked:

I’m looking for some nice winter destinations near Oslo, Norway (no more than 2 hours away).
I would really like to find somewhere where there is dog sledding , or where we could se reindeers, if there are any.
Or some place where there is sure to be snow, just to play with it and hang out for the day and maybe some nice cafe , or other winter activites.
Or even maybe some skiing lessons?

There are lots of moose and some reindeer northwest of Oslo, but you’re probably going to have to go at least 3-4 hours (by train or car, though train is probably nicer in the winter than driving) northwest, into the mountain range. Some great ski resorts that are very family-friendly and offer lessons are Hemsedal and Geilo, both about 4 hrs by train from Oslo. These are very nice trains, too! Absolutely beautiful area, very popular winter destinations. If you want to see arctic fauna, try Langedrag Nature Park (http://www.langedrag.no/), which has reindeer, moose, arctic fox, lynx and other animals. A great place for family! And the foxes have cute white coats in the winter. Check out flickr for pictures, just type in “langedrag.” The Vassfaret Bear Park opens in March (http://www.vassfaret-bjornepark.no/) and looks like it would be cool. That’s also nearby those ski resorts mentioned before. I don’t know if you can do much dog sledding, you could check out or for booking adventure excursions. I’ve mostly associated dog sledding with the far north.

If you want to venture about 3 hours further, you could visit the majestic Jotunheimen and Rondane national parks, though I’m not sure what skiing/excursion type things they offer.

    Have fun!
